The wedding took place in typical Indian way, with doses of English style. The groom was dressed in a cream and gold sherwani. A turban completed the 'Indian Prince' look. Sonia looked lovely ion a gold lehenga choli. The wedding had a gathering of eighty people with most ladies arriving in red coloured sarees.

The occasion, which was planned by "Regal-Weddings", had a performances by a jam session.

India is now a popular destination for foreigners wanting a stunning location, an opulent backdrop, and abundant ritual to make their wedding memorable. The forts and palaces of the western state of Rajasthan are the most popular.

"I get over 20 inquiries every month," said Ankit Bhargava, the director of Regal Weddings in Udaipur, in southern Rajasthan.

"Every month, at least four or five foreign couples get married here. They want the works - all the ceremonies of a traditional wedding such as the mehndi [henna ceremony] and sangeet [musical evening]."

Rajasthan, known for its royal weddings at heritage properties, tops the list of marriage destinations. "This season, we have 20 NRI weddings lined up. Around 60%  of our clientele comprises NRIs," says Regal Weddings director Ankit Bhargava. The Company is a Rajasthan-based wedding planner. Generally, the ratio of foreigners to Indians in an NRI weddings is 7:3.

Regal Weddings.com Pvt Ltd specialises in destination weddings in India. The Director of the Udaipur-based company, Ankit Bhargava, said that the company's portal has positioned India not just as an exotic place to get married but also for the hospitality and festivity.

Vishv Vijae Singh, who manages the company, said that in the recent months they have seen a sharp increase in the number of enquiries about wedding destinations and people are seriously comparing India with Hawaii, Mauritius, Malaysia and Disneyland. .

Foreigners keen to get married in the opulent and colorful style of Indian maharajas are heading in increasing numbers for Rajasthan, the desert state in northwest India, that boasts more princely families and fairy tale palaces than any other part of India.
Rajasthan has always been popular with tourists but tour operators say that it has now become a wedding destination for Europeans and Americans seeking a grandeur to make their marriages memorable.
